BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College women's soccer team will host Albertus Magnus College in the 2015 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinals this Saturday, October 31, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Saints are the No. 3 seed in the eight-team field as they work towards the program's first GNAC championship since 2007.
This marks Emmanuel's fourth straight appearance in the GNAC tournament and 17th all-time, while the Falcons have been to the postseason for seven consecutive seasons. The Saints are 16-14 all-time in the GNAC tournament, most recently making a run to the championship game in the 2014 playoffs.
The Saints and Falcons have only had one prior meeting in the postseason which resulted in a 4-0 Emmanuel victory in the quarterfinals in 2009. The Saints were the #2 seed that year and the Falcons posted the #7 seed. Kate McKenna scored twice for the Saints in the win, while Amber Di Nucci tallied a goal and an assist, and Jessica D'Ottavio posted a seven save shutout.
In their meeting earlier this season, the Saints snuck away with a 1-0 home victory thanks to a 74th-minute goal by senior captain Katelyn Fink (Sanford, Maine) and one of sophomore Tori LaRoche's (Hudson, N.H.) seven shutouts on the year.
Fink leads the team through 18 regular season games with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Senior Molly Carey (Swampscott, Mass.), senior captain Maggie Carey (Swampscott, Mass.), freshman Kayla Generis (Wethersfield, Conn.), and freshman Mikayla Guthrie (North Andover, Mass.) have all tallied double-digit points on the season.
The Falcons are led by junior Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.), who has six goals and four assists for 16 points, and junior Kaitlyn Fedumenti (Stratford, Conn.) and senior Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) who both have 13 points on five goals and three assists.
The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal will take on the winner of No. 7 Saint Joseph's (Maine) @ No. 2 Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, November 3 at the site of the higher seed.
