FRAMINGHAM, Mass.- Framingham State University senior Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) scored two goals becoming the Rams all-time career goals leader in a 3-0 win over Emmanuel College in non-conference play Tuesday afternoon. With the victory the Rams improve to 11-5, while the Saints finish the regular season at 11-9.
The Rams opened up scoring in just the 3rd minute of play, when Parent sent a long strike from 25 yards over the head of the leaping Saints' keeper. That goal was Parent's 49th career marker and put her in a three-way tie for the career goals record with former Rams Kellie Dewar (1987-90) & Karen Burns (1994-97).
The Rams added to the lead when sophomore Lulu Foy (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal. Senior Isabela DeSouza sent a pass intended for Foy, an Emmanuel defender collided with the crashing goalkeeper going to intercept the pass. Foy was then able to redirect the goal into the wide open net for the score.
In the 40th minute, Ram's keeper Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) sent a long kick that was taken in stride by Parent. Parent then beat a Saints defender and the EC goalie to find the back of the net for her 50th career goal, the most by any player in Rams history.
The Saints' best opportunity came in the 14th minute of play when a corner kick was sent in the direction of freshman Hailey Longbottom (Princeton, Mass.). Longbottom headed the ball to the far side of the net, past the FSU keeper, but the shot was saved by a Ram defender.
Framingham maintained possession for most of the contest outshooting Emmanuel 21-10.
Sullivan made four saves in route to her 6th shutout of the season. Freshman Victoria Laroche (Hudson, N.H.) made two saves and allowed three goals in 45 minutes in net. Teammate Jenna Marcello (Hopedale, Mass.) made 2 saves in a scoreless second half.
The Rams will travel to Westfield State to close out MASCAC and regular season play on Saturday, November 1st with kickoff slated for 1:00 PM. The Saints host a GNAC Quarterfinal the next day against St. Joseph's College (ME) at 1:00 PM.
