BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Jessica DiPhilippo (Falmouth, Maine) and sophomore Marissa Endow (Worcester, Mass.) both scored as Babson College defeated visiting Emmanuel College, 2-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
Babson, which has won five straight games and is unbeaten in its last nine matches going back to last season, is now 5-0-1, while Emmanuel, which has dropped three of its last four games, drops to 3-3-0.
After dominating throughout the opening 45 minutes the Beavers finally got on the board just before halftime. Endow was cut down in the box while trying to settle a service from first-year Victoria Penta (Belmont, Mass.), and DiPhilippo blasted the ensuing penalty kick past Saints' junior goalkeeper Jenna Marcello (Hopedale, Mass.) to go in front 1-0 at the 42:30 mark.
After Emmanuel substitute keeper, first-year Victoria Laroche (Hudson, N.H.), made a diving stop on an attempt by junior Meghan Tyson (Scarborough, Maine) in the 51st minute, and another save on an shot by sophomore Jennifer Narlee (Medfield, Mass.) a minute later, the Green and White extended the lead in the 54th minute. DiPhilippo had her shot from just outside the six-yard box deflect off the crossbar, but Endow was there to bury the rebound for a two-goal edge.
The Saints had one of their best opportunities to get on the board a little under three and a half minutes later but Babson senior Avika Shah (Scotch Plains, N.J.) was standing in the goal mouth to deny an attempt by senior Kelsie Dumas (Dalton, Mass.) from the right side of the box.
Laroche, who made six saves in the second half for Emmanuel, denied Beavers' sophomore Olivia Kerester (Chappaqua, N.Y.) in the 77th minute and the 80th minute to keep the margin at two.
Senior goalkeeper Melina Kapotsis (Watertown, Mass.) stopped three shots to post her fourth shutout of the year for the Green and White. Marcello, who started for the Saints, finished with four saves.
The Beavers held a 29-7 edge in shots, including a 12-4 advantage in attempts on frame. They also attempted four of the game's six corner kicks.
Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Mount Holyoke for its NEWMAC opener at 12 p.m., while Emmanuel hosts Curry on Thursday at 7 p.m.
