SULLIVAN, GARVEY & CARDILLO HONORED ON ALL-GNAC WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAMS
BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore defender Ari Cardillo (Richmond, Mass.), senior midfielder Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.) and senior forward Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, R.I.) have been selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer All-Conference Team, it was announced by the conference office. Cardillo and Sullivan were named First Team selections while Garvey was tabbed on the Third Team.
BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore defender Ari Cardillo (Richmond, Mass.), senior midfielder Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.) and senior forward Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, R.I.) have been selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Soccer All-Conference Team, it was announced by the conference office. Cardillo and Sullivan were named First Team selections while Garvey was tabbed on the Third Team.
Cardillo makes her second career appearance on the All-GNAC squad after earning Third Team honors as a rookie. The defender logged 16 games this season, missing some action due to an early season ankle injury but remained the Saints top defensive player throughout the campaign. The sophomore helped Emmanuel post a combined 1.66 goals against average en route to recording seven shutouts on the year. Cardillo netted her first collegiate goal this season, scoring in a 3-0 GNAC victory over Norwich University.
Over her two years with the Saints, Cardillo has played in 37 contests and help the Saints post 23 wins and 14 shutouts over the span.
Sullivan joins Cardillo on the First Team after a sensational senior season in which she was the team leader in goals (10), assists (7) and points (27). The Dalton, Mass. native appeared in 20 contests, starting 18 for the Saints and finished the year among the GNAC leaders ranking tied for fifth in the conference in goals, assists and points. The Saints posted an impressive 5-1-1 record in contests in which Sullivan scored including a 4-0 mark in GNAC action. Sullivan was at the top of her game against conference opponents, recording three multi-goal games and 19 of her 27 points. She posted three game-winning goals, all coming in GNAC action and finished the year with 76 shot attempts to rank first on the Saints and seventh in the GNAC.
Over her career with Emmanuel, Sullivan played in 78 total games to rank tied for ninth all-time. Her 29 goals rank seventh in program history while her 18 assists are tied for fifth. Sullivan registered 76 total points to rank seventh all-time while her seven game-winning goals place her tied for fourth among the all-time leaders.
Garvey rounds out the 2013 selections with a Third Team All-Conference nod. This marks the third time the senior has appeared on the All-Conference squad, earning Second Team honors in 2012 and Third Team honors in 2011. Garvey posted a strong year playing in and starting all 21 matches for the Saints in which she tallied 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Her nine goals ranked tied for 10th in the GNAC while her 21 points put her in 13th among conference leaders. The forward scored three game-winners, all in GNAC matches including the Saints GNAC Quarterfinals victory over University of Saint Joseph (CT).
During her EC tenure, Garvey tallied 90 points to rank fourth all-time. Her 37 career goals were also good for fourth among the all-time leaders while her 16 helpers rank tied for eighth. Garvey appeared in 80 matches to rank seventh all-time while her 11 game-winning goals rank second all-time in EC annals.
Junior defender Amanda Roberts (Hudson, N.H.) was named to the 2013 GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
The 2013 Women's Soccer team wrapped up the campaign with an overall record of 10-8-3 to go along with a 7-2-2 standard in conference action. Emmanuel earned the No. 4 seed in the GNAC tournament, hosting University of Saint Joseph (CT) Blue Jays in the Quarterfinals. EC was able to post a dominant 3-0 win to earn a Semifinal berth before falling to the eventual GNAC Champions in Lasell College.
