The win under the lights at Raider Field boosts the Saints to 6-6-2 on the season and 4-1-1 in league play. Rivier falls to 2-8-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the GNAC with the setback.
Rivier freshman Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA) got the scoring started, as she was able to take a pass from senior Lauren Tamposi (Hollis, NH) and lift it past the Emmanuel goaltender. The Riv goal scored in just the 13th minute of action put the host Raiders up, 1-0.
The Saints would find the equalizer just over seven minutes later when Katelyn Fink (Sanford, Me.) netted her second goal of the season. She was able to break free from the Raider defenders, taking a feed from Donandrea Myette (Portsmouth, R.I.) and placing it in the back of the net. Myette's assist on the goal was the senior captain's third helper of the season.
With the Saints holding a 12-7 lead in first-half shots, the two squads entered halftime knotted at 1-1. Emmanuel would score quickly out of the break with senior captain Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, R.I.) scoring what would hold up as the game-winner just 1:18 into the second frame. Garvey's shot went to the left of the Riv goaltender and was able to sneak inside the far post, giving EC the 2-1 win.
The goal was the 33rd of Garvey's collegiate career and her 10th game-winning goal.
Senior Cassandra Brown (Somersworth, NH) made nine saves on the evening for the Raiders, while to duo of Abaigeal Thivierge (Bennington, Vt.) and Jenna Marcello (Hopedale, Mass.) each recorded two saves, while playing a half apiece in the cage for the Saints.
Rivier will return to the field on Saturday afternoon as they host Anna Maria College in a 4:30pm GNAC matchup. Emmanuel will also be in GNAC action on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a 3pm kickoff.
