BOSTON – For the first time in over eight years, Emmanuel Saints women's lacrosse held their opponents off the scoreboard, following a 21-0 victory over Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Tuesday night at Clemente Field.
The Saints improve to 9-4 (7-0 GNAC), picking up their sixth consecutive win. The last time Emmanuel shut out an opponent was April 2, 2016, following a 19-0 win over the University of St. Joseph of Connecticut. The Falcons fall to 1-11 (1-6 GNAC) in the loss.
Emmanuel posted 10 goals in the opening quarter, the second-most goals the program has ever had in a single quarter, falling one shy of an 11-goal quarter last season against Albertus Magnus.
The Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring four goals by four different players in the opening 2:40. Over the opening 15 minutes, six different Saints found the net, including a pair of goals each for junior Abby Brown (Saco, Maine), and sophomores Brianna Stephenson (Waterboro, Maine) and Madeline Wright (Mattapoisett, Mass.).
Emmanuel added three more in the second quarter, with Wright scoring a pair and first-year Tori Flaherty (West Wareham, Mass.) netting her first career tally, all leading to a 13-0 halftime lead.
The Saints scored four more times in the third and added another four-goal quarter in the fourth, including another first-career goal, this time by first-year Maddie McCulloch (Old Lyme, Conn.), as the Saints cruised to a 21-0 win.
Sophomore Livia Fedele (Spencerport, N.Y.) finished with a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. Wright led all scorers with four tallies on the night, giving her 44 on the season. Brown scored her first career hat trick, ending the night with three goals. First-year Hannah Hoenshell (Littleton, Mass.) chipped in two goals and two assists for a career-high four-point night. Junior goalie Isabella Thomas (Miami, Fla.) made two saves in the victory.
Over the six-game winning streak, the Saints have outscored opponents 95-33, as they head into a Saturday, April 13 game with Johnson & Wales on Clemente Field at 1:00 p.m. The Saints and Wildcats are the conference's only remaining unbeaten teams in GNAC play, as Johnson & Wales enters Saturday's game at 6-0 this year.
