Middle Quarters Lift Women's Lacrosse Over Rivier, 14-4
NASHUA, N.H. - Emmanuel women's lacrosse outscored the Rivier Raiders 9-0 between the second and third quarters, leading to their fifth straight win while keeping a perfect 6-0 record in conference play, following a 14-4 win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field.
NASHUA, N.H. - Emmanuel women's lacrosse outscored the Rivier Raiders 9-0 between the second and third quarters, leading to their fifth straight win while keeping a perfect 6-0 record in conference play, following a 14-4 win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Merrill Field.
Emmanuel has won its last five games and seven of their last eight, as they improve to 8-4 (6-0 GNAC) this season. Over the five game winning streak, the Saints are outscoring opponents 74-33. The loss drops the Raiders to 5-5 (2-4 GNAC) on the year.
The Saints trailed 3-2 late in the first quarter before rattling off 11 consecutive tallies, including nine between the second and third quarters. Emmanuel entered the second quarter ahead 4-3 as goals by junior Dejaliyah Srimouksavanh (Portsmouth, N.H.), senior Maddie Kross (Bolton, Conn.), and junior Deanna Bourque (Loudon, N.H.), scored in a span of 1:23, increased the Saints lead to 7-3, an advantage they held until the half.
The offensive surge continued into the third with the Saints putting a half-dozen goals on the board in that 15-minute frame. Five different goal scorers found the net with Kross scoring twice in the quarter, part of a 6-0 period for Emmanuel, who led 13-3 after three quarters. The two sides split goals in the final minutes of the fourth as Emmanuel took home a 10-goal win.
Kross and sophomore Madeline Wright (Mattapoisett, Mass.) each finished with a hat trick with Kross adding one assist and Wright finishing with two helpers. Srimouksavanh and sophomore Livia Fedele (Spencerport, N.Y.) each finished with two goals and one assist in the victory. Junior goalie Isabella Thomas (Miami, Fla.) made six saves in the win.
Raiders junior Sarah Lachance (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with a hat trick while sophomore Bailey Carroll (Nashua, N.H.) added one goal for Rivier. Senior goalie Lindsey Kruger (New Bedford, Mass.) made six stops in the defeat.
The Saints host Albertus Magnus on Tuesday, April 9, at 7:00 p.m. in GNAC play. The Raiders travel to Colby-Sawyer for a 4:00 p.m. match on April 9.
