Saints Stay Unbeaten in GNAC Play Following 16-5 Win at Regis
WESTON, Mass. – Emmanuel women's lacrosse scored 11 consecutive first-half goals, providing plenty of offensive firepower in Tuesday night's win, 16-5, over the Regis Pride, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at the Pride Athletic Complex.
WESTON, Mass. – Emmanuel women's lacrosse scored 11 consecutive first-half goals, providing plenty of offensive firepower in Tuesday night's win, 16-5, over the Regis Pride, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at the Pride Athletic Complex.
The Pride were first on the board, just 18 seconds into the game on a free-position goal by Hope Alto (Boston, Mass.), giving Regis a 1-0 lead. From that point, the Saints dominated the opening 30 minutes, scoring the next 11 goals between the first and second quarters.
Junior Rachel Canedy (Woodstock, Conn.) and sophomore Ella Marschitz (Naperville, Ill.) scored four of the Saints seven first quarter goals, as Emmanuel led 7-1 after a quarter. Canedy finished off her hat trick early in the second quarter, part of a four-goal second frame, scored by four different Saints. Regis got one goal back with 2:03 to go in the half as the Saints took an 11-2 lead into the break.
The Saints scored five consecutive goals in the third quarter, including a pair for sophomore Madeline Wright (Mattapoisett, Mass.), to lead by 14. With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, the Pride converted on a player-up goal after a yellow card was called on the Saints, to finish the quarter, 16-3. The Pride scored the only two goals in the last quarter, giving the Saints the 16-5 victory.
Saints junior Isabella Thomas faced 12 shots for the Saints, earning seven saves and improving to 5-4 (3-0 GNAC) this season. Canedy, Marschitz, and Wright all finished with three goals on the night. Senior Alyssa Hogan (Westborough, Mass.) chipped in with three assists while junior Dejaliyah Srimouksavanh (Portsmouth, N.H.) had a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
Regis (6-2, 2-1 GNAC) is set to travel to Simmons University on Friday, March 29 for a 5:00 p.m. start while Emmanuel (5-4, 3-0 GNAC) is on the road to face Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday, March 30, with a 11:00 a.m. start.
