Senior Day Triumphant For Women’s Lacrosse in 21-4 Win vs. Anna Maria
BOSTON - For the sixth time this season, the Emmanuel Saints women’s lacrosse team reached the 20-goal mark while also breaking the team record for most goals in a single season with 253, as the Saints picked up a 21-4 win over Anna Maria on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The previous team record for goals in a single season was 249, set in 2014.

THE LEAD – For the sixth time this season, the Emmanuel Saints women's lacrosse team reached the 20-goal mark while adding on to their team record for most goals in a single season with 274, as the Saints picked up a 21-4 win over Anna Maria on Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The previous team record for goals in a single season was 249, set in 2014.
Prior to Saturday's game, the Emmanuel Saints women's lacrosse program recognized Class of 2023 members Ali Bergin (Newbury, Mass.), Amena Hamdi (Wallingford, Conn.), Alyssa Santangeli (Watertown, Conn.), Gabriela Serra (New Bedford, Mass.), Megan Steele (Auburn, Maine), and Mackenzie Vieira (Acushnet, Mass.), in a Senior Day ceremony.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first seven tallies of the afternoon belonged to the Saints as Senior Day was off and running with a 7-0 lead. First-years Brianna Stephenson (Waterboro, Maine), Ella Marschitz (Naperville, Ill.), Livia Fedele (Spencerport, N.Y.), and Emily Gates (Waterford, Conn.) combined to score the first four, giving EC a 4-0 lead.
- Steele and junior Maddie Kross (Bolton, Mass.) scored in the final minute of the first quarter, just 29 seconds apart, upping the advantage to 6-0. Sophomore Abby Brown (Saco, Maine) opened the scoring 55 seconds into the second quarter, capping off the Saints seven-goal run to start the game.
- Anna Maria junior Olivia Stump (Southington, Conn.) got the AMCATS on the board in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 7-1, but the Saints responded quickly with four goals in a 3:04 span, opening up an 11-1 lead. A pair of AMC goals drew them back to 11-3, but Gates finished the scoring in the second quarter, helping Emmanuel to a 12-3 halftime lead.
- The goals for Emmanuel continued in the third as EC outscored Anna Maria 4-1 in the third quarter with four different Saints finding the goal-scoring column in those 15 minutes.
- The lead increased further in the fourth quarter with the Saints netting five goals in the final 15 minutes while holding the AMCATS off the scoreboard, resulting in a final of 21-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Gates finished with career-highs of five goals, four assists, and nine points. The nine-point afternoon makes Gates the eighth individual in program history to have a nine-point game. The offensive outburst is the 13th total time in program history that someone has reached nine points in a game.
- In all, a dozen Saints recorded a point on the day, including Steele, who matched a career-high with four assists to go along with one goal.
- Stephenson finished with a hat trick while Marschitz chipped in with an afternoon of two goals and two assists.
- Serra got the start in the Saints goal, allowing four goals in 60 minutes and improving to 3-0 (2-0 GNAC) this season.
- AMC senior Riley Cote (Tewksbury, Mass.) had one goal and one assist to lead the AMCATS with two points.
- Senior Lydia Rosen (Worcester, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with a goal, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
- Senior goalie Ashley Sheehan (Medford, Mass.) made 12 stops for Anna Maria, dropping to 1-14 (0-12 GNAC) in the loss.

- The Saints round out the regular season with a trip to Lasell on Wednesday, April 26, with faceoff set for 5:00 p.m. The first round of the GNAC Playoffs start on Saturday, April 29, as today's win guarantees the Saints a first-round home game in the upcoming postseason.
