THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team continued its hot start to the 2023 campaign on Monday evening, cruising past Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action, 18-3, to improve to 5-0 on the year to match the best start in program-history. 11 different players scored in the win, a new single-game record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints got out to a fast start with five different goal scorers finding the back of the net over the first six minutes of action to set the tone for the evening. First years Emily Gates (Waterford, Conn.), Avery Robillard (Rowley, Mass.), Ella Marschitz (Naperville, Ill.), Broghan Laundry (Swampscott, Mass.) and senior Megan Steele (Auburn, Maine) did the early damage to make it 5-0 just 5:56 into the contest following Laundry's first score on the night. She added a second goal in the quarter to move the needle to 6-0 before the Leopards got into the scoring column with 52 seconds left in the stanza on a marker by first year Maddie Feetham (East Bridgewater, Mass.) to account for a 6-1 score through one.
- Emmanuel opened the second quarter in similar fashion as five different scorers added to the EC lead with unanswered tallies to make it 11-1. Junior Alyssa Hogan (Westborough, Mass.), first years Brianna Stephenson (Waterboro, Maine) & Livia Fedele (Spencerport, N.Y.), Laundry and sophomore Rachel Canedy (Woodstock, Conn.) made up this scoring barrage. WIT followed suit as well by rounding out the quarter with the final goal coming from sophomore Shayleah Gunning-Lavoie (Laconia, N.H.) to make it 11-2 at the break.
- EC held WIT scoreless in the third as sophomore Deja Srimouksavanh (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored a pair while Gates & Hogan also tallied their second scores of the action to bump the lead to 15-2 through three.
- Junior Maddie Kross (Bolton, Conn.) made it a 16-2 game with 9:26 to play in the fourth to mark the 11th different goal-scorer for the Saints. Over the final six minutes WIT senior Helen Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine) and Robillard traded goals before Laundry rounded out the scoring to account for the 18-3 final at Roberto Clemente Field.
