NEWTON, Mass. -- Junior Brooke Scahill (Gales Ferry, Conn.) tied the school single-match record with six goals and six assists for 12 points as Mount Ida extended its winning streak to five straight with an 18-9 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse victory over Emmanuel Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.
The host Mustangs (6-1, 3-0 GNAC), who have outscored their opponents by a 94-29 margin during the five-match win skein, jumped out to a 3-1 lead on tallies from Scahill, senior Hayley Napier (Fairhaven, Mass.) and junior Alyssa Kelly (Lee, Mass.) in the opening eight-plus minutes of play, but the visiting Saints (0-4, 0-3 GNAC) closed back to within one on freshman Elizabeth Fortier's (Newburyport, Mass.) marker two minutes later. Mount Ida scored six of the final eight goals of the half, including a hat trick off the stick of freshman Jordyn Ringuette (Colchester, Conn.), to take a 9-4 edge at the break and built that margin to seven (12-5) on Kelly's goal with 21:20 remaining in the match.
Emmanuel responded with three unanswered goals from senior Stephanie Warn (Hanson, Mass.), sophomore Allison Hutchings (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Alexandra Ford (Springfield, Mass.) in a 3:42 span midway through the second half to slice its deficit to four, but the Mustangs iced their triumph by netting six of the contest's last seven markers, including three from Scahill and a pair from Kelly, to account for the final margin.
Scahill tied the single-match points mark that has been accomplished twice by Kelly (who collected a dozen points with eight goals and four assists just four days ago in a win over Rivier) as well as former Mustang standout Amanda Bowen in 2015. Kelly also finished with six goals and added a pair of assists for an eight-point performance for the hosts, as she and Scahill have combined for 68 goals and 40 assists for 108 points in just seven outings to date. Napier joined Ringuette in collecting a hat trick for Mount Ida, whose current winning streak is its' longest since a seven-match skein last spring.
Warn finished with a hat trick in the setback for Emmanuel, which received a pair of goals each from Hutchings along with two tallies and an assist from junior Andrea Liddell (Weymouth, Mass.). Ford added an assist to go with her goal for the visitors, who also received a helper off the stick of sophomore Kylie Rice (Bethlehem, Conn.). Senior Eleanor Garvey (Elkridge, Md.) picked up her sixth victory of the season with a 16-save effort in goal for the Mustangs, while junior Riley Loomis (Goshen, Conn.) made 12 stops in net for the Saints, as Mount Ida outshot Emmanuel by a 35-30 margin overall (30-25 on goal) and held a 17-12 edge in draw controls for the contest.
Mount Ida hosts Wheelock in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Alumni Field beginning at 7:30 p.m., while Emmanuel heads to Framingham, Mass. tomorrow evening to square off with Framingham State in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
