Following a record-setting 2013 season, three members of the Emmanuel College Women's Lacrosse Team were honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Freshman midfielder Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Megan Mattox (Upton, Mass.) were named GNAC 2nd Team All-Conference selections, while senior captain Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) earned a spot on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Tuleja and Mattox were two of 24 women's lacrosse players honored by the GNAC, with twelve named to the 1st Team All-Conference and twelve to the 2nd Team. The two helped lead the Saints to their best season in program history, which included setting a record for most wins in a single season, as the squad boasted a 9-5 mark in 2013.
Tuleja had a standout rookie season, leading the Saints in scoring with a team-best 38 goals and 12 assists for 50 total points. Her 38 goals ranked the freshman 12th among the conference's leading scorers. Tuleja started in all 14 games played, firing off a team-high 78 shots. She also recorded 29 groundballs, caused 15 turnovers and was successful on seven free position shots.
Mattox, who started in 11 of her 13 games played this season, is making her first appearance on the All-GNAC Team. The sophomore anchored the Saints' defensive unit throughout the season, recording 34 groundballs and causing 14 turnovers. In transition, Mattox also fired off four shots, connecting on two of them, for a 50% shooting percentage on the year.
Leahy, who captained the Emmanuel squad for the past three seasons, landed a spot on the GNAC's All-Sportsmanship Team. The Sportsmanship Team is comprised of one representative from each of the conference's ten women's lacrosse teams, who has displayed the greatest sportsmanship throughout the season, including interactions with players, coaches and officials. Leahy, one of Emmanuel's three graduating seniors, will leave the Saints as the program's all-time leader in almost every category, including games played, games started, goals, assists, total points and groundballs.
