BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel women's lacrosse players, Madeline Leahy and Lauren White, were among the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's Weekly award winners for the week ending on April 20. White was named the GNAC Goalie of the Week, an honor she is receiving for the second time this year, while Leahy was named to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll.
The honors for both student-athletes come after the two helped lead Emmanuel to an undefeated week to close out the regular season. The Saints topped Wheelock College, 15-4, before shutting down Anna Maria College, 18-1. The win over Anna Maria gave Emmanuel their highest-ever seed, ranked 5th in the upcoming GNAC Tournament.
White, a native of Lynnfield, Mass., earned back-to-back victories in goal for Emmanuel. The freshman goalie played a total of 120 minutes, allowing just five goals, with an impressive 2.50 goals against average on the week. White combined to collect 10 saves for a 66.7 save percentage in the two games. White now has a total of 9 wins in net his season.
Leahy, one of the team's co-captains, recorded a hat-trick and dished out an assist in Emmanuel's win over Wheelock. The Cohasset, Mass. native also scored a goal and dished out two assists in the Saints' GNAC win over Anna Maria. Leahy collected a total of six groundballs on the week. Her four goals, three assists and six groundballs last week earned her a spot on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll. Leahy will graduate in May as Emmanuel's all-time leader in goals, assists, total points and groundballs.
White, Leahy and the Saints will take their No. 5 seed to Standish, Maine tonight, where they will battle the 4th-seeded Monks of Saint Joseph's College in one of four GNAC Quarterfinal games being played today. The Emmanuel/St. Joe's game time is set for 8:00 PM on the turf at Scarborough High School.
