DEMIRER PLAYING PROFESSIONALLY IN ICELAND

Julia Demirer, a 2003 graduate of Emmanuel College, has been playing professional basketball overseas for the past six years. She currently plays in the Iceland Express, the top women's professional league in Iceland. The name of her team is Hamar. During the 2010 season, Demirer averaged 18 points and 14 rebounds per game for Hamar. In 2009, she was honored for having he highest rebounding average in the league.
Demirer began her professional career playing in England, Austria, and Sweden. She then spent two and a half years playing in Spain, before her current stint in Iceland. She also played in a tournament in the Netherlands, and spent a brief time playing in Poland and Germany.
The Iceland league typically plays one game per week. The European season usually starts in September for pre-season practice and games begin in mid-October. The season generally runs through April, with playoffs held in May. At the end of each season, Demirer has taken a couple months off to travel.
Her professional basketball experience has afforded her the opportunity to play in and visit several countries overseas. The countries Demirer has visited include: Spain, England, Wales, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Poland, Iceland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Croatia, Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, France, Turkey, Greece, Peru, Brazil, Japan, and Morocco.
