LANDRY RECEIVES COMMISSIONER'S AWARD
Feb. 20, 2010
BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel College senior Nick Landry was honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) this past Saturday. Landry, the team manager for the Emmanuel Women's Basketball Program, was given a "Commissioner's Award" by GNAC Commissioner Joe Walsh. Landry has been an inspiring and dedicated member of the Saints' program for the past four years.
Landry's hard work and dedication to the program have been an inspiration to both the student-athletes and the athletic department staff at Emmanuel. He received his most recent honor because of his incredible work ethic and commitment to the Saints. The Commissioner's Award is presented to those individuals who have demonstrated commitment, excellence and integrity on behalf of the student-athletes of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Landry is Emmanuel's "Manager of the Year."
Landry received the Commissioner's Award on Saturday during the team's senior day celebration, which took place prior to the tip off of the Saints' last regular season home game. He was joined at the celebration by his parents and siblings, who have supported him throughout his collegiate career.
Landry is a native of Marshfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Marshfield High School in 2006. Nick gained his managerial experience at both the middle school and high school levels. While at Marshfield High, he was the manager for the Rams Football Team from 8th grade through his senior year and manager for the Rams Girls' Basketball Team for his four high school years.
Landry describes his role as team manager for the Saints as "basically to help the program in any way that I can. I go to practice, set up the clock, get the balls out, and bring out the water. During the games, I pass out water to the players and show as much energy and spirit as possible." When asked what he enjoys most about being the team's manager, Landry said, "What I like most about being the manager, is that I get to experience college basketball at a great level and get to travel to different colleges around New England. It also gives me great life experience. I have also had the opportunity to see old high school teammates of mine when we have played games at Colby-Sawyer College and Tufts University."
Landry commented that his most memorable athletic moment at Emmanuel came during his freshman year, when the Women's Basketball Team made it all the way to the NCAA Sweet 16. During the run, the Saints defeated Brandeis University in the round of 32, and then advanced to face the eventual National Champion, DePauw University. Since then, the Saints have won two more GNAC titles and made two more NCAA Tournament appearances. Landry has been on the sidelines through it all. He has now been apart of three-straight GNAC Championship Teams, and will be with the Saints this week as they seek their fourth GNAC title.
When asked about his overall experience at Emmanuel, Landry said, "What I love most about Emmanuel is that I have been given a wonderful education from great faculty and staff, and have experienced it in a great location, the City of Boston."
Landry is a History Major at Emmanuel and aspires to be either a high school or middle school history teacher upon graduation from college. He also intends to pursue his love for athletics, as he plans to be a high school football or basketball coach as well. Landry is thankful for his award and for all the many people who have helped to get him to where his is today both, as a manager and as a person.
Landry's passion for Emmanuel athletics extends beyond the hardwood. He is a dedicated supporter of all of the Saints athletic teams. Nick can be seen at a rainy cross country meet or at cold and blustery softball double-header. He is truly an "EC Superfan."
