Feb. 8, 2011
Emmanuel College's Meghan Kirwan was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 6th. Kirwan's honor comes after the junior guard led Emmanuel to a 3-0 week with wins over Saints Joseph's (Me.), Wesleyan and Pine Manor.
Kirwan, a native of Melrose, Massachusetts, totaled 43 points, 25 rebounds and 7 assists over the three-game stretch, while shooting 54.8% from the floor (17-31) and 77.8% from the line (14- 8). Kirwan had game-highs of 25 points vs. St. Joe's (Me.) and 18 points vs. Wesleyan, while also averaging 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.3 assists per game during the week.
Kirwan and the Saints currently sit atop the standings in the GNAC, boasting an overall record of 13-7 and an undefeated conference mark of 7-0. Kirwan leads the Saints in both scoring and steals and she has been named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll twice already this season. Emmanuel will return to action on Tuesday night (2/8), when the Saints travel to Emerson College to take on the Lions in a cross-town rivalry.
