SAINTS CLINCH FIRST WITH WIN OVER IDA

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team clinched first place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with an 85-45 win over Mount Ida College on Thursday night in the Jean Yawkey Center. With this win in their last regular season game, the Saints improved to 18-7 overall and wrapped up conference play at 11-1. Mount Ida dropped to 9-15 on the season and 3-8 in the league.
The Saints led wire to wire, with their largest lead of the game, 42 points, coming with 12:53 remaining in the contest. Emmanuel's pressure defense forced 36 Mustang turnovers and the Saints totaled 25 steals, scoring 43 points off the Mount Ida errors.
Emmanuel knocked down 34 of 72 shots form the floor, for a 47.2 shooting percentage on the night. The Saints also hit 13 of 16 from the line (81.3%). The Mustangs struggled form the field, connecting on 18 of 58 field goals (31%).
The Saints were led by junior captain Iman Davis' (Toms River, N.J.) game-high 21 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Davis shot 10 for 16 on the night and scored most of her buckets in transition, adding to the Saints' 24 fast-break points. Sophomore point guard Casey Shevlin (Medford, N.Y.) hit 4 of her 5 shots from the floor and 3 of 4 from long-range for 11 Emmanuel points. Freshman guard Breanna Ockimey (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in with 11 points of her own in the win.
The Mustangs got a solid game from Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, Mass.), who played the full forty minutes for Mount Ida. The junior forward scored a team-high 16 points and hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds, while dishing out 6 assists and picking up 4 steals. Junior guard Nicole Casimiro (Lee N.H.) added 8 points in the effort for the Mustangs.
Emmanuel will receive the top seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. The Saints will host the 8th seed on Tuesday (2/24) at 6pm in the Jean Yawkey Center.
