Bio

Coach Howell joined the Emmanuel coaching staff in 1994 and enters his 30th season in 2022-23.

Howell was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2015. Over his first 30 seasons, he helped guide Emmanuel to a 633-201 (.759) overall record and 311-18 (.945) Great Northeast Athletic Conference mark with the Saints. Howell has guided EC to 23 consecutive winning seasons.

On May 7, 2019, Howell was inducted into the Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame in the inaugural class, becoming the first D-III Women's Basketball coach to receive the honor. He was also named the 2022 Emmanuel College Assistant Coach of the Year at the annual Athletic Awards Banquet on May 9, 2022.

He has been with the Saints for multiple GNAC Championships and NCAA Tournament runs, including Emmanuel's appearance in the NCAA Final Four in 2001, Sweet Sixteen in 2007 and Elite Eight in 2012. 

Coach Howell works primarily with the post players in practice. 

He is a 1985 graduate of the University of Massachusetts - Boston. Coach Howell has been involved in coaching youth and high school basketball in the Boston, Malden and Winchester areas.

He is a native of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and currently works full-time for Mellon Trust.
