Atuahene's 22 Points Helps Saints Past Wildcats 73-65 in GNAC Play
BOSTON - The Emmanuel College Saints Women’s Basketball team collected their second conference win of the season over the Johnson & Wales Wildcats this Saturday in a 73-65 victory. This win brings the Saints to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Wildcats are 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Scoring started off slow for the Saints with the first four points coming off free throws from first year center Kaitlyn Bartash (Standish, Maine). The Wildcats were able to take advantage of this, with a seven-point quarter from Mikayla Caruso (Newton. N.J.) leaving the Saints trailing 22-14 at the quarter's conclusion.
Emmanuel came out hot in the second quarter outscoring the Wildcats 25-14 where senior forward Kiera Eubanks (Portland, Maine) and junior guard Paris Atuahene (Phoenix, Ariz.) combined for 12 points. Olivia Matela (Swampscott, MA) connected for her third three pointer of the game, adding to her 12 points in the contest.
Emmanuel stayed in control for the rest of the game with their largest lead of the game (12) coming at the end of the third quarter. The Saints forced the Wildcats into five turnovers in the quarter, helping them extend the lead.
The Wildcats hung in there in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 63 with just four minutes remaining. The Saints were able to respond after a go-ahead jump shot from Eubanks that helped the home team pull away and secure a 73-65 victory.
Atuahene was the leading scorer for the Saints in the win, with a season-best 22 points. Bartash displayed her defensive ability with six blocks on the day. Caruso led all scoring with 23 points for the Wildcats in the loss.
The Saints move on to play at Division I Boston University in an exhibition contest this Tuesday (12/12) at 6:00 P.M. Johnson & Wales returns home to play Fitchburg State this Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. in a nonconference matchup.
