BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College senior forward Loredana D'Agostino (Broad Brook, Conn.) has been name to the 2021-22 D3hoops.com All-Region team, it was announced earlier today on D3hoops.com.
D'Agostino earned Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player of the Year and First Team honors following a season of stuffing the stat sheet in the major defensive categories. Averaging 7.7 rebounds, 2.2 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game, D'Agostino finished in the top-10 in all three areas among GNAC players this season.
Along with these defensive numbers, D'Agostino's First-Team Honor comes with an 11.0 points per game average while shooting the third-best average in the league from the floor at 49.2 percent.
Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and schools and conferences were each contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 746 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
This is the 21st year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 25th annual All-America selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
D'Agostino was one of four players represented from the GNAC on the D3hoops Region 1 All-Region squad as Rivier sophomore Lyric Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) and Saint Joseph's (ME) senior Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) earned Second Team honors while Regis junior Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) joined D'Agostino on the Third Team. Grumblatt was also named the Region 1 Rookie of the Year.
Division III split up basketball into 10 regions this season. A region with 40 teams or more has three All-Region teams honored, while a region with fewer than 40 teams has a first and second team. This reorganization results in approximately 10 additional players being recognized when compared to previous full seasons.
Players from these lists are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams, which will be released Saturday, March 19.
