THE LEAD – A strong second and fourth quarter showing powered Emmanuel College past Regis College, 71-46, Monday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball action at the Jean Yawkey Center in Boston, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After playing the opening quarter to a 16-16 score, the Saints broke open the game in the second with an 18-3 run fueled by nine points from junior guard Caitlin Barker (Plainville, Conn.) to take a 34-19 lead with 2:46 to play in the half. Emmanuel held the Pride to just seven points in the quarter to take a 39-23 lead into the halftime break.
- EC graduate student Jamad Fiin (Boston, Mass.) led all scorers at the break with 11 points.
- The Pride kept the game in reach in the third, not allowing the hosts to pull away as Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) scored nine points in the stanza to keep the visitors within striking distance, trailing 51-34 heading into the final frame.
- Fiin and Barker opened the final quarter with consecutive threes to open up a 57-34 lead to swing all the momentum back to EC as the hosts coasted to their 10th consecutive victory, closing out the Pride by a 71-46 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Fiin led all scorers with 17 points on a 7-for-9 shooting performance from the field while adding a career-high six steals to go along with six boards and three assists.
- Barker finished with a season-high 14 points while senior forward Loredana D'Agostino (Broad Brook, Conn.) chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.
- Gonzalez paced Regis with a double-double of 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds while Courtney Doherty (Willimantic, Conn.) netted a team-high 16 points.
- The 14-1 start through 15 games matches the best start in program history (2006-07).

- Both squads return to the court on Wednesday, January 26 as the Saints head to Nashua, N.H. to take on Rivier University at 6:00 PM while the Pride head to Newton, Mass. to face off against Lasell University in a 5:30 PM affair.
