THE LEAD – An 18-0 Saints run that spanned between the second and third quarters provided all the cushion needed on Thursday evening as the Emmanuel Saints defeated the Rivier Raiders 83-62 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emmanuel took control of Thursday's GNAC contest in a span from the end of the second quarter to the middle of the third quarter, going on an 18-0 run over 7:23, between the halves. The Saints finished the second quarter on a 7-0 run and added an 11-0 run to start the third quarter, taking the Saints advantage to 54-31.
- In total, the Saints outscored the Raiders 40-19 in the middle two quarters, a span that provided more than enough cushion for Emmanuel. The Saints shot just 30 percent combined in the second and third quarters while holding the Raiders to only 22 percent shooting over the same period.
- A first-half played within two possessions through the opening 20 minutes broke into a double-digit lead for the Saints in the final minutes of the second quarter. Over the final 4:06, the Saints held the Raiders scoreless while scoring seven straight points to go from leading by five, to leading by a dozen, 43-31, at the half.
