THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College women's basketball team led from start to finish in a 75-60 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory over Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- EC raced out to a 17-3 lead to open the action and never looked back in the GNAC divisional showdown. They closed the first quarter up 18-8 and held a 38-22 lead at halftime.
- The Chargers opened the second half strong, cutting the lead to 13 after hitting a pair of threes but the Saints responded and opened up its largest lead of the game at 27 (62-35) late in the third on a layup by Olivia Matella (Swampscott, Mass.).
- Colby-Sawyer battled until the end, outscoring Emmanuel in the final stanza 23-13 but the visitors lead was too large to overcome as the Saints held on for the 75-60 road win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Graduate student Jamad Fiin (Boston, Mass.) and junior Angel Hunt (Newberry, Fla.) paced EC with a team-high 11 points while Yannie Chan (Hong Kong, China) and Allison Wild (Tewksbury, Mass.) added 10 points each.
- Megan Molettieri led all scorers with 17 points for CSC while Marissa Holt chipped in with 15 points for the home side.
- EC shot 43.5% from the floor in the win, holding the Chargers to a 30.3% clip.
- Emmanuel's bench also outscored Colby-Sawyer's by a 40-12 margin.
