THE LEAD – After nearly four weeks away from the court, the Emmanuel Saints women's basketball program picked up their season right where they left off, starting 2022 with a commanding 95-48 win over the Lasell Lasers on Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints were out to a quick leading in the opening quarter, starting the game on a 9-0 run with 4-of-6 shooting over a 2:28 span. The lead quickly expanded to double-digits with the Saints taking a 13-2 edge, thanks in part to six points in the early going by senior Riley Lahiff (North Attleboro, Mass.).
- Emmanuel took a 17-point lead into the second quarter and had that advantage cut down to a dozen with the Lasers scoring the first five points of the quarter to trail 26-14. From that point, the Saints took control over the last 7:56, embarking on a 24-3 scoring surge that would boost the Emmanuel lead to 50-17 at the half. Seven different Saints scored in the run that had Emmanuel leading by 33.
- The third quarter produced the Saints highest scoring quarter of the season with Emmanuel putting up 30 points on 12-of-21 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. The Saints finished the contest outscoring the Lasers 15-11 in the fourth quarter, on their way to the 95-48 win.
