Women's Basketball Uses Team Effort to Down Elms in First Semester Finale, 84-50
CHICOPEE, Mass. - A complete team effort fueled the Emmanuel College women’s basketball team past Elms College, 84-50, Monday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The Saints bench outscored the Blazers reserves 53-6 with all 15 players finding the points column for the second straight game.

The Saints bench outscored the Blazers reserves 53-6 with all 15 players finding the points column for the second straight game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the score even at 7-7 midway through the first quarter, Emmanuel Head Coach Andy Yosinoff called a timeout to reenergize his squad and out of the break the Saints responded with a 13-0 run to take a 20-7 lead into the second period.
- Emmanuel increased its lead to 38-21 by the half, forcing the Blazers to commit 19 first-half turnovers and shoot just 25.9% from the floor in the stanza.
- The Saints put the game out of reach in the third with a 29-14 surge including 19 bench points during the run fueled by six points each from sophomores Amari Faust () and Kiera Eubanks () to bump the Emmanuel lead to 67-35.
- Elms battled in the final but the visitors managed to still outscore the Blazers 17-15 en route to the 84-50 GNAC road victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Olivia Matela (Swampscott, Mass.) finished with a team-high 13 points while Faust ended the game with a season-high 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 performance from the floor.
- Elms sophomore guard Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, Conn.) led all scorers with 15 points and senior McKenzie Huria (Terryville, Conn.) chipped in with 11 points.
- The 7-1 start for the Saints marks the best first semester performance by the team since the 2012-13 season when they opened the year with an 8-1 mark with their only loss also coming at the hands of Amherst College.

- The Saints are idle now until December 29 when they take on Cal Lutheran at the D3 Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada.
- Elms closes out its first semester schedule on Thursday, December 16 hosting Mount Holyoke College at 5:00 PM.
