HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tied at 62-62 with under two minutes remaining, Saints graduate student Jamad Fiin (Boston, Mass.) drained a straight-away three-pointer, providing the final points of the game as the Saints defense held for a 65-62 victory.
- After leading for much of the first three quarters, the Lions found themselves down 11 points with 7:07 remaining, but with the use of an 11-1 run, the Lions tied the game 62-62 as the game came down to the final two minutes.
- The Saints charged out to their largest lead of the night to start the fourth quarter, embarking on a 10-0 run, capped by a three-point made by senior Korie Mathis (Duluth, Ga.), as Emmanuel led 61-50 with 7:07 to go.
- Emmanuel came out strong to start the second half, erasing a seven-point halftime deficit thanks to a 7-0 run to tie the game at 39-39. The Saints led by as many as four in the quarter, but a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Lions sophomore Annika Hebert (Wildwood, Mo.) set up an exciting fourth quarter with the Saints leading 51-50.
- Emerson led by a pair after the first quarter and quickly established momentum with a 7-0 run in the opening 1:19 of the second quarter to lead 23-14. The Saints closed to within five, but another Lions run, this one of 6-0, boosted the Lions advantage to 33-22. The Saints closed the gap to seven by halftime to trail 39-32.
