BOSTON, Mass. - Emerson College connected on a season-high 11 three pointers to power an explosive offensive effort as the Lions defeated visiting Emmanuel College, 87-64, on Tuesday evening in non-conference women’s basketball action at the Brown & Plofker Gym.

THE LEAD: Emerson College connected on a season-high 11 three pointers to power an explosive offensive effort as the Lions defeated visiting Emmanuel College, 87-64, on Tuesday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at the Brown & Plofker Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Saints led early in the action, holding a 10-8 advantage after a layup by sophomore forward Riley Lahiff (Attleboro, Mass.) with 6:02 remaining in the first before Emerson put together a 6-0 spurt to take the lead for good in the game.
  • The Lions outscored Emmanuel 15-2 over the final six minutes of action in the first quarter to hold a 23-12 advantage heading into the second frame.
  • Emerson forced the Saints into 15 first half turnovers and connected on five of six three point attempts in the second quarter to build a 54-32 halftime lead.
  • The hosts continued to make the Saints pay in the third, outscoring Emmanuel by a 22-16 margin in the quarter to take a 76-48 lead into the final frame.
  • Emmanuel's reserves outscored the Emerson bench 16-11 in the final quarter but it was too little too late as the Lions cruised to an 87-64 non-conference win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Lions had five players in double-figures including a team-best 16 points by Kailee Yan. Rachel Davey chipped in with 14 points, Quinn Madden and Kate Foultz added 13 points while Sam Boyle rounded out the crew with 11 points.
  • EC senior Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Cambridge, Mass.) scored a game-high 21 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds.
  • Fellow senior Kayla Weaver (West Haven, Conn.) added 11 points while sophomore Loredana D'Agostino (Broad Brook, Conn.) scored nine points.
  • Emmanuel was 0-for-5 from three marking the first time since Nov. 28, 2017, a span of 58 games, that they were held without a field goal from behind the arc.
