THE LEAD: Five players scored in double-figures to power the Emmanuel College women's basketball team past Rivier University, 109-69, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints scored 25+ points in every quarter for the first time all season, jumping out to an early 25-14 lead after the first quarter.
- Rivier kept the game to within single digits until Emmanuel closed the first half with a 13-2 run over the final 2:34 to take a 54-34 lead into halftime.
- Freshman shooter Molly deBettencourt (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) netted eight points in the third quarter to help EC increase the lead to 81-57 heading into the final stanza.
- With the bench in for most of the fourth, EC pulled away outscoring the Raiders 28-12 in the fourth to cruise to a 109-69 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore guard Jamad Fiin (Boston, Mass.) led the Saints with 17 points while junior guard Kayla Weaver (West Haven, Conn.) added 16 points, five steals and four assists.
- deBettencourt finished with 15 points to match her season high.
- Junior guard Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Cambridge, Mass.) chipped in 13 points in just 21 minutes of action while Senior Madison McLaughlin (Westerly, R.I.) rounded out the crew in double-figures with 12.
- Freshman Loredana D'Agostino (Broad Brook, Conn.) just missed double-figures with nine points but added a season-best four blocked shots in the win.
- For Rivier, senior guard Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) led all scorers with 32 points before fouling out of the game.
- The Saints finished the day shooting 55.1% from the floor marking the third time this season they have shot over 50.0% from the field. Both of the other two games, Emmanuel also scored over 100 points (11/18 vs. Westfield State – 57.5% & 12/6 vs. Pine Manor – 56.8%).
