MCLAUGHLIN & SAINTS HAND CONN COLLEGE FIRST LOSS
NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior guard Madison McLaughlin (Westerly, R.I) scored a career-high 36 points with eight three pointers to lift the Emmanuel College women’s basketball team over host Connecticut College, 79-67, Tuesday evening at Luce Field House. The loss was the first of the year for the Camels (7-1) who had been previously unbeaten through seven contests while the Saints move to 5-1 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emmanuel jumped out to a 5-0 lead out of the gates and went on to outscore the hosts by a 17-7 margin in the opening quarter behind nine points from McLaughlin.
- EC extended its lead to 25-10 in the second frame following a layup by senior center Mary McCarthy (Scituate, Mass.) before Connecticut College closed the half outscoring the Saints by a 24-10 margin over the final seven minutes of the quarter to pull within a point at the break, trailing 35-34 at the half.
- Senior Caroline Pangallo (Fairfield, Conn.) gave the Camels a brief lead at 37-35 with a three to open the third quarter but Emmanuel took the lead for good on a McLaughlin triple with 8:54 to play in the stanza.
- Leading 55-47 heading into the final quarter, Emmanuel made sure to seal the win by shooting 58.3% from the field in the fourth (7-for-12) including 2-for-2 from downtown to outscore Connecticut 24-20 in the frame en route to the 79-67 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The new career-high for McLaughlin nearly doubles her previous best of 20 points which she scored in a win over Regis on Feb. 13, 2018.
- Junior guard Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Cambridge, Mass.) chipped in with another double-double performance of 13 points and 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
- Junior guard Kayla Weaver (West Haven, Conn.) was also in double-figures with11 points.
- CC junior guard Sami Ashton (Clinton, Conn.) led the Camels with a team-best 26 points in 38 minutes of action.
- The 5-1 start for the Saints marks the fastest start through six games since the 2012-13 season when the Saints opened the year with a 6-0 mark.
