BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's basketball team is set to host Simmons College in the 2017 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday, February 21 at 7:00 PM on the Andy Yosinoff Court. The Saints closed out the regular season with an 18-7 overall record, posting a 14-2 mark in the GNAC to earn the top seed in the GNAC South Division. The Sharks finished the campaign at 8-15 and 6-10 in the GNAC to secure the No. 4 seed in the GNAC North.
HISTORY
Emmanuel is no stranger to the GNAC tournament making its 22nd consecutive appearance in the field while the Sharks are making their 11th trip and first since 2010. The Saints own a 53-6 all-time GNAC tournament record compared to a 2-10 mark for Simmons. Head to head in the tournament, Emmanuel is 3-0 all-time against its Fenway neighbor with a 78-46 Quarterfinal win in 2009 and a pair of Semifinals wins in 2004 (69-53 win) and 2010 (80-50 win). EC has dominated the all-time match up with a perfect 26-0 record vs. the Sharks since the first meeting in 1994, outscoring Simmons by an average of 26.5 ppg over the series.
EMMANUEL SCOUTING REPORT
Emmanuel's success depends on the play of its senior tri-captains Jen Chalk (Horseheads, N.Y.), Alexis Ezell (Acworth, Ga.) and Olivia Marks (Canterbury, Conn.). Chalk leads the team in scoring averaging 13.9 ppg in GNAC play and is the team's most potent scoring threat. Ezell leads the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards per game and has provided a scoring boost when called upon throughout the year. Marks is one of the top defenders in the conference and even though she doesn't fill up the stat-sheet, her presence is felt by shutting down opponents top scoring threats.
SIMMONS SCOUTING REPORT
Like Emmanuel, the Sharks look to a senior trio to provide the scoring punch that makes up just over 50% of the team's offensive production this season. Senior Liz Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) is one of the most consistent players in the GNAC, recording double-figures in 16 games this season and leads Simmons averaging 11.8 ppg as well as 9.0 rebounds per contest. Ashley McAdams (Freeport, N.Y.) is averaging just under 10 ppg (9.8 ppg) while also posting 8.2 rebounds a game and recorded a double-double of 15 and 10 earlier this season vs. EC. Jamie Zoldy (Watertown, Conn.) rounds out the trio averaging 9.0 points and is the Sharks main shooting threat from deep range.
