WOMEN’S BASKETBALL POSTS 75-45 WIN OVER ANNA MARIA
BOSTON, Mass. – All 15 players on the Emmanuel College women’s basketball team scored in a convincing 75-45 victory over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Andy Yosinoff Court. The Saints improve to 9-5 on the year and 5-1 in GNAC play while the loss drops the AMCats to 2-11 and 0-5.

The Saints improve to 9-5 on the year and 5-1 in GNAC play while the loss drops the AMCats to 2-11 and 0-5.
Anna Maria jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind a jumper from senior guard Christina Gauvin (Dudley, Mass.) but the Saints took the lead for good on a three by sophomore Olivia Dalphonse (Buxton, Maine) on the following possession. The action remained a one possession game for most of the first quarter before EC sophomore center Mary McCarthy (Scituate, Mass.) hit a layup with 1:57 to play in the quarter to give Emmanuel a 9-4 lead. The hosts ended the quarter on a 9-2 run to build a 14-6 lead heading into the second stanza.
In the second quarter, Emmanuel outscored the AMCats 23-14 powered by an intense full court defensive press that forced the visitors into making 16 first half turnovers. EC made them pay scoring 20 first half points off of turnovers to build a 37-20 lead heading into halftime.
The Saints put the game out of reach in the third, outscoring Anna Maria by an 18 point margin in the frame (28-10) to amass a 65-30 lead going into the final quarter. In the fourth, Anna Maria was able to outscore the hosts 15-10 but the Saints cruised to the 75-45 win for their third GNAC victory of the week.
Gauvin led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor including 2-for-2 from distance. Senior guard Nicole Mareiro (Acushnet, Mass.) added nine points, three rebounds and three steals.
For Emmanuel, senior forward Jen Chalk (Horseheads, N.Y.) collected a team-high 14 points while junior guard Alisha Fox (National Park, N.J.) added 10 points and four steals. Making her second straight start, sophomore Christine Miller (Manchester, Maine) grabbed a game-high seven rebounds while Dalphonse dished out a game-high six assists.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 16 when the Saints head to Nashua, N.H. against Rivier University while Anna Maria hosts Saint Joseph's College (ME). Both GNAC contests are scheduled for 1:00 PM tips.
