No. 2 AMHERST CHARGES PAST WOMEN'S HOOPS, 69-40
BOSTON, Mass. – In a balanced offensive effort that saw three players in double figures, No. 2 Amherst College downed the Emmanuel College women’s basketball team, 69-40, Tuesday evening in non-conference action at the Jean Yawkey Center. Merideth Doswell (Richmond, Va.) scored a game high 19 points with 15 of them coming in the second half while also contributing nine rebounds. Amherst moves to 4-0 on the year as Emmanuel drops to 1-3 overall.

Merideth Doswell (Richmond, Va.) scored a game high 19 points with 15 of them coming in the second half while also contributing nine rebounds. Amherst moves to 4-0 on the year as Emmanuel drops to 1-3 overall.
The game opened up with Emmanuel and Amherst trading baskets until Amherst's Hannah Hackley (Westford, Mass.) knocked down a second three pointer and added a layup increasing their lead to 17-8. After the first quarter the Saints trailed Amherst 11-19.
Saints junior guard Alisha Fox (National Park, N.J.) hit a long range three pointer early on in the second, but that did not stop Amherst from coming out of the break with a 9-3 run. Amherst extended their lead to 14 as Doswell hit two free throws with 25 seconds remaining in the half. The Saints entered half time trailing 21-35.
Emma McCarthy (Shelton, Conn.) had a staggering nine rebounds in the first half including seven offensive boards largely contributing to the Amherst lead. Amherst scoring was dually led by Eck and Hackely who had eight a piece Eck also contributed six rebounds and Hadley dished out three assists.
Saints freshman guard Kayla Weaver (West Haven, Conn.) finished the half with a game high nine points while captain Jen Chalk (Horsehead, N.Y.) added four points and four rebounds.
The third quarter would see Amherst continue to dominate the game as they extended the lead to 63-30 entering the fourth. The Saints fought hard in the final frame trading baskets with Amherst and outscoring the nation's second ranked team, 10-6, marking just the second quarter all season the Purple and White have been outscored in.
Doswell had a game high 19 points with 15 of them coming in the second half she also contributed nine rebounds. McCarthy also filled the stat sheet putting up 10 boards and eight points. Other Amherst players scoring double digits were Hackley and Eck adding 14 and 11 respectively.
The Saints are back in action on Thursday, December 1 as they host conference rival Suffolk University to open up conference play. Amherst will return to the hardwood on Thursday, December 1 as they host Eastern Connecticut State in a non-conference matchup.
