TEAM EFFORT LIFTS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OVER MOUNT IDA, 89-48
NEWTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's basketball team topped to the Mustangs of Mount Ida College on Monday afternoon at the Mount Ida Athletic Center by a final score of 89-48.

EC senior forward Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) led all scorers and Emmanuel with 17 points while shooting perfect from behind the arc while Mustang Angie Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) notched her eighth double-double of the season scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
With the setback, Mount Ida drops to 2-14 (0-4 GNAC) while the Saints lead the GNAC at 4-0 and 13-4 overall.
The Mustangs took the lead early on in the first quarter at 6-5 on a made layup by Jesse before Lena Negri (Arlington, Va.) put back a layup of her own to give the visitors the lead for good.
Higgins and Negri anchored the Saints' offense as they combined for 31 points while going 13 of 19 from the field. Sophomore Alisha Fox (National Park, N.J.) tallied nine points and three rebounds while teammates Jen Chalk (Horseheads, N.Y.), Alexis Ezell (Acworth, Ga.) and Christine Miller (Manchester, Me.) all recorded seven points while Ezell also caromed four rebounds.
Mount Ida committed 24 turnovers in which Emmanuel scored 33 points off those miscues while the Saints held the slight edge in rebounding, 41-35. Emmanuel had 20 assists in the game compared to Mount Ida's nine with the Saints shooting 51.5% from the field while the Mustangs shot just 14 of 55, good for 25.5%.
For the Mustangs, Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) and Brittany Crosby (Riverside, R.I.) both tallied 11 points in the conference clash with Crosby going 9 of 10 from the charity stripe and Jesse garnering eight rebounds. Martinez and Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) each recorded three assists.
Mount Ida will return to their home hardwood on Thursday night when the AMCATS of Anna Maria come to Mustang City with tipoff set for 6:00 PM. Emmanuel will rest until Saturday, January 23rd when they play host to Rivier University at 1:00.
