BRUNSWICK, Maine - Lena Negri scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Emmanuel College women's basketball team to a 64-57 win over Bowdoin on Tuesday evening.
The Polar Bears have lost two of their last three games and fall to 10-4. The Saints have won six in a row and improve to 11-4 on the year.
Game Highlights
- The Polar Bears led for majority of the first half, extending their advantage to as many as eight points following four straight points from Shannon Brady, 24-16, with 4:30 remaining in the second period
- Emmanuel chipped away at the free throw line, scoring five straight points from the charity stripe to spark a 9-0 run before the half
- Negri connected on two more free throws with under a minute to play before the break, giving the visitors a 25-24 at halftime
- Emmanuel continued to roll to start the third quarter, opening the frame on a 10-2 surge, capped by six straight points from Negri to take a 35-26 lead with 6:34 to go in the period
- The Saints extended their lead to 11 points with 3:24 left in the third, but Bowdoin closed the quarter on a 10-0 run, sparked by four points from Lydia Caputi, to close the gap to 42-41 heading into the fourth
- The teams traded buckets to start the final period, and Bowdoin actually took the lead following a Kate Kerrigan runner, 45-44, with 7:42 to go
- But Emmanuel responded with a 12-2 surge to take the lead for good, getting back-to-back three-pointers from Negri and Sarah Higgins with under four minutes to go to seal the win

- Negri finished 9-10 from the free throw line on her way to her 24-point output while grabbing 11 caroms and blocking three shots
- Higgins pitched in 15 and nine boards to go with four steals for Emmanuel
- The Saints hit just 39% of their shots, but took advantage at the free throw line, hitting 20-24 as a team
- Bowdoin hit just 32% from the field, including 26% (5-19) from three-point range
- Brady scored 22 points and blocked two shots for Bowdoin while Kate Kerrigan added 12 points and eight rebounds
- Emmanuel held 18-8 lead in bench points for the game
