ANDERSON'S DOUBLE-DOUBLE LIFTS SAINTS OVER LEOPARDS

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Saints topped the visiting Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-1, in men's volleyball action played in the Jean Yawkey Center on Tuesday night. The non-conference victory for Emmanuel, improved the Saints' record to 19-12 overall, as they head into North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) tournament play on Friday. With the defeat, Wentworth wrapped up its season with a 9-12 mark.
The Saints cruised to a 30-15 win in the opening set and then nipped the Leopards 30-26 in game two. The third frame saw Wentworth take a two-point edge as the set went into extra points, 35-33. Emmanuel closed out the match with another 30-26 win in the fourth game to come away with the 3-1 win.
Emmanuel's lone senior, Brian Anderson (Akron, Ohio), was honored prior to playing in the final home match of his collegiate career. Following the short senior night ceremony, Anderson led the Saints to their 19th win of the season. The senior opposite recorded his first double-double of the year, featuring 10 kills and a team-high 11 digs.
Junior outside hitter Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, Va.) notched 18 kills and 7 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) added 9 kills and 8 digs. Sophomore middle Cameron Todd (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 9 kills, while freshman Alexander Petty (Wayland, Mass.) chipped in with 6 kills and 7 digs. Taylor Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) and Sean O'Connor (Hampstead, N.H.) shared time at setter and combined for 54 assists in the win for the Saints.
The Saints, who have set the program record for wins in a season this year will compete in the NECVA Tournament this weekend at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. The 15th-seeded Saints will take on the 2nd-seeded Golden Flyers of Nazareth College on Friday (4/3) at 2pm. This is Emmanuel's third appearance in the NECVA Tournament.
