SAINTS CELEBRATE SENIOR NIGHT WITH WIN OVER WENTWORTH

Boston, MA - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team defeated Colleges of the Fenway (COF) rival Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-0, in a North East Collegiate Volleyball Association match on Thursday night. The Saints cruised to three straight wins, defeating the Leopards, 30-20, 30-22, and 30-24. The careers of the three seniors on the Emmanuel squad (Brendan Ellis, Sophanna Lout, and Russell Brodmerkle) were celebrated prior to the start of the match.
Sophomore outside hitter Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, VA) led Emmanuel with 17 kills, hitting .542 on the night. Senior middle hitter Sophanna Lout (Allston, MA) hit .500 with 11 kills and 3 service aces. Freshman outside hitter Stephen Keeney (Snellville, GA) added 7 kills and 3 aces, while senior opposite Brendan Ellis (Chelmsford, MA) chipped in with 7 kills and 2 aces in just two games. Sophomore setter Taylor Lowe (Malibu, CA) tallied a team-high 24 assists and senior libero Russell Brodmerkle (Lancaster, MA) notched 4 digs for the Saints.
Wentworth was led by senior middle blocker Dan Tessier (Pawtucket, RI), who totaled 15 kills. Junior defensive specialist Jeff DeMartin (Cambridge, MA) led the Leopards defensively with 21 digs.
With this win, Emmanuel improves to 13-14 on the season and 7-4 in NECVA-New England. The Saints will play in the inaugural Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon (3/29) at Rivier College in Nashua, NH. Emmanuel will square off with Johnson & Wales University at 3pm.
