11th-RANKED NIGHTHAWKS SWEEP SAINTS

Boston, MA - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team squared off with the visiting Nighthawks of Newbury College on Tuesday night. Newbury entered the match ranked 1st in NECVA-New England and 11th in the nation. The Nighthawks (27-8) cruised to a 3-0 win over the host Saints (12-14). Newbury came out strong, winning game one, 30-19. Emmanuel fought back in the second set, keeping it close throughout, but Newbury came away with a 31-29 win. The Nighthawks went on to prevail in game three by a score of 30-22.
Newbury was led by the offensive play of senior outside hitter Erik Kostanski (Hampden, MA) and junior outside hitter Bryan McDermand (Palatine, IL), who tallied 14 kills apiece in the win. The Nighthawks' setter Matthew Talamantes (Sylmar, CA) dished out 56 assists for the victors.
Emmanuel received a team-high 10 kills from rookie outside hitter Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, CA), who played just two games in the match. Freshman middle blocker Keoni Rabaino (Tucson, AZ) chipped in with 8 kills, while sophomore setter Taylor Lowe (Malibu, CA) totaled 36 assists in the effort.
With this loss, the Saints fell to 12-14 overall and 6-4 in the conference. Emmanuel will host its last regular season home match on Thursday night vs. Wentworth at 8pm. The three seniors (Brendan Ellis, Sophanna Lout, and Russell Brodmerkle) on the Saints' squad will be honored prior to the start of the match.
