SAINTS FALL TO BLAZERS IN NECVA BATTLE
March 20, 2008
Boston, MA - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team was defeated by the visiting Blazers of Elms College on Thursday night, 3-1. This was Emmanuel's second loss to Elms this season. The Blazers took the Saints into five games back in January in a non-conference meeting. Tonight's battle featured both teams entering the match with the same record (6-2) in North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) play.
The Saints came out strong in game one and took care of the Blazers by a score of 30-26. Game two was a nail-biter that finished with Elms taking a 34-32 advantage and tying the match at 1-1. It was all Elms in games three and four, with the Blazers winning, 30-17 and 30-16, to come away with a 3-1 victory.
Emmanuel was led by hitters Brendan Ellis (Chelmsford, MA) and Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, VA). Both players slammed down 14 kills on the night. Ellis also tallied 3 service aces. Sophomore setter Taylor Lowe (Malibu, CA) came away with 36 helpers for the Saints. Freshman libero Jake DeLuise (Wakefield, RI) led Emmanuel defensively, racking up 15 digs in the effort.
The Saints are now 12-13 overall and hold a 6-3 mark in NECVA New England games. Emmanuel will play its two remaining home contests next week. The Saints will play host to Newbury College on Tuesday night (3/25) at 8pm and Wentworth Institute of Technology on Thursday night (3/27) at 8pm.
