Feb. 10, 2008
Cambridge, MA - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team finished 4th in the MIT Invitational Tournament over the weekend. The Saints went 2-0 in Saturday's "pool play" with wins over Bard College (3-1) and Lasell College (3-0). On Sunday, the Saints fell to 12th ranked Ramapo in straight sets and were then defeated by the University of New Haven, 3-1, in the match for third place. The Roadrunners of Ramapo went on to defeat 11th ranked MIT to take the tournament championship. The Roadrunners became the second team in the tournament's history to claim the crown in their first appearance, as Emmanuel accomplished this feat back in 2006.
Sophomore outside hitter Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, VA) was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second year in a row. Townsend hammered down 44 kills and tallied 23 digs and 8 service aces in the 4 matches. Freshman outside hitter Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, CA) notched 53 kills and 24 digs, while senior opposite Brendan Ellis (Chelmsford, MA) recorded 50 kills and 8 blocks for the Saints. Freshman middle Cameron Todd (Los Angeles, CA) led Emmanuel with a two-day total of 14 blocks, while sophomore setter Taylor Lowe (Malibu, CA) dished out a combined 153 assists in the tournament.
Emmanuel is now 6-6 overall and remains undefeated in NECVA New England at 2-0. The Saints will play again on Thursday (2/14), when they host the Lynx of Lesley University in a conference match-up beginning at 7pm.
