SAINTS SPLIT IN NON-CONFERENCE TRI-MATCH

Newton, MA - The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball Team shut out Wentworth Institute of Technology in three games, before being swept by Newbury College in Saturday's non-conference tri-match at Hellenic College in Newton, MA. The Saints downed the Leopards, 30-18, 30-27, and 30-26. Sophomore outside hitter Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, VA) led the way with 12 kills and 7 digs. Freshman outside hitter Stephen Keeney (Snellville, GA) hammered home 11 kills and gathered a team-high 9 digs, while freshmen Matt Salvi (Trumbull, CT) and Cameron Todd (Los Angeles, CA) combined for 13 kills and 5 blocks. Rookie setter Sean O'Connor (Hampstead, NH) dished out 34 assists in the win.
In Emmanuel's second match of the day, the Saints were outplayed by the host Nighthawks of Newbury College. The Nighthawks took care of the Saints in three sets, 30-21, 31-29, and 30-22. Townsend led the way again for Emmanuel with 12 kills, 9 digs, and 2 service aces. Freshman outside hitter Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, CA) chipped in with 11 kills, 5 digs, and 3 blocks. Todd, along with fellow freshman Keoni Rabaino (Tucson, AZ) and senior Brendan Ellis (Chelmsford, MA) tallied 4 kills apiece, while combining for 10 blocks in the effort. Sophomore setter Taylor Lowe (Malibu, CA) totaled 27 helpers on the day.
With Saturday's split, the Saints are now 4-3 overall and remain 2-0 in NECVA play. Emmanuel will be back in action on Thursday night (2/7), when the Saints host the Raiders of Rivier College in a 7pm start.
