LASERS HAND SAINTS FIRST LOSS

Boston, MA - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team fell to the visiting Lasers of Lasell College on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match in the Jean Yawkey Center. Emmanuel and Lasell went five games, before the Lasers came away with the 3-2 victory, handing the Saints their first loss of the season. Emmanuel fell to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA), while Lasell improved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in NECVA play.
Lasell took an early advantage over Emmanuel, winning the first two games, 30-26 and 34-32. The Saints recovered to take sets three and four, 30-26 and 30-20, before losing game five, 15-9. Emmanuel's unforced errors included 23 service errors.
The Saints, who were coming off a huge win over 7th ranked MIT on Tuesday night, were led by sophomore captain Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, VA). Townsend hammered down 16 kills, to go along with a team-high 8 digs and 6 service aces. Freshman outside hitter Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, CA) found the floor 14 times, while freshman middle Keoni Rabaino (Tucson, AZ) tallied 13 kills in the effort. Sophomore setter Taylor Lowe (Malibu, CA) dished out 50 assists, while senior opposite Brendan Ellis (Chelmsford, MA) notched 5 blocks for the host Saints.
Emmanuel will play again on Tuesday (1/29) against the Blazers of Elms College at 7pm.
