Bio

Tyson Rietz joined the Emmanuel athletic staff in Fall of 2011 as an Assistant Coach for the Saints Men's Volleyball Team. Rietz is a 2011 Emmanuel alum, graduating from the College with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a concentration in Biochemistry.

Rietz, a native of Granite Bay, California, played two years of volleyball as an outside hitter for Santa Barbara City College, where he received 1st Team All-WSC and team MVP honors both years. Rietz then transferred to Emmanuel for his junior and senior years and played outside hitter and opposite for the Saints.

Rietz earned 2nd Team All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference honors as a junior and 1st Team All-GNAC honors as senior, leading the Saints to the program's best two seniors in school history. Rietz and the Saints went 27-11 in his junior year and improved to a program-best 28-9 in Tyson's senior campaign. Rietz not only excelled on the volleyball court, he was also a high achiever in the classroom, as he was named to the GNAC and the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) All-Academic Teams both years.

Rietz suffered a devastating season ending ACL tear midway through his senior season. His time spent time on the bench with the coaching staff led to the desire to return to Emmanuel and coach the Saints.

Rietz currently works full time as a Research Technician in the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital.
