Men's Volleyball Earns a Senior Night Sweep of Emerson
BOSTON – In their final match of the regular season inside the Jean Yawkey Center, the Emmanuel College Men’s Volleyball team (16-8, 9-4 GNAC) rolled past Emerson College (4-15, 2-9 GNAC) in straight sets on Tuesday night. The sets were won 25-22, 25-19, and 25-18 en route to a fourth consecutive victory for the Saints in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition.
BOSTON – In their final match of the regular season inside the Jean Yawkey Center, the Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball team (16-8, 9-4 GNAC) rolled past Emerson College (4-15, 2-9 GNAC) in straight sets on Tuesday night. The sets were won 25-22, 25-19, and 25-18 en route to a fourth consecutive victory for the Saints in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition.
Prior to the matchup, the program honored senior outside hitter Leonard Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) for his contributions to the Saints men's volleyball program over the past four years. Kim finished the night by recording Emmanuel's final kill of the contest, setting up the match point that led to an Emerson service error and a Saints victory. Emmanuel also honored senior managers Zoe Kupiec and Alison Doherty prior to the beginning of play.
The Saints fell behind 8-3 early in the first set after back-to-back attacking errors from the home side. Emmanuel battled back, and with the score knotted at 20 later in the set, Trey Guest (Newington, Conn.) rose up to give the Saints a lead. Jyles Amirault (Andover, Mass.) locked in a 25-22 first set victory for the Saints with a kill of his own to give Emmanuel a 1-0 edge.
In the second set, the home side scored the first point and never trailed throughout the remainder of set. Guest started and finished the set with kills to earn a 25-19 victory in the second set.
Michael Shelley (San Francisco, Calif.) powered a kill midway through the third set to give the Saints a 10-point lead at 15-5. Emmanuel went on to cruise to a third set victory, winning 25-18 and securing a 3-0 match triumph.
Theo Hacket (Portland, Maine) led the attack for the Lions with eight kills followed by Jack Meissner (Phoenix, Ariz.) with seven. Baydin Slavik (Chicago, Ill.) contributed 13 assists while Bryson Beck (Fresno, Calif.) added 12 in the loss. Shelley tallied a match-best 13 kills and guest followed closely with 12. Dominic DeFerrari tallied 30 assists to feed the hitters in the Saints victory.
Up next, Emerson will return home for a conference matchup with Rivier University on Thursday (4/4) at 6:00 P.M. The Saints will compete in their final match of the regular season on Saturday (4/6) at Lasell beginning at 11:00 A.M.
