Men's Volleyball Claims First Win Over Gulls Since 2011 in 3-1 Win at Endicott
BEVERLY, Mass. - Thanks in part to 47 total team kills and a blazing .363 hitting percentage, the Emmanuel Saints men’s volleyball program defeated the Endicott Gulls, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play. The Saints win was the first men’s volleyball victory over the Gulls since 2011.

THE LEAD – Thanks in part to 47 total team kills and a blazing .363 hitting percentage, the Emmanuel Saints men's volleyball program defeated the Endicott Gulls, 3-1, on Wednesday evening in non-conference play. The Saints win is the first men's volleyball victory over the Gulls since 2011.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the opening set, Emmanuel broke free after an 18-18 tie thanks to claiming seven of the last 10 points, on their way to a 25-21 set win.
- In the second set, Endicott tied the match at one set apiece with the help of a 12-5 scoring run that eventually led to a 25-14 set victory.
- In the third, the Saints used their best set of the night, combining for 17 kills on just 27 attempts, with no errors, good for a hitting percentage of .630, in an Emmanuel 25-22 set win.
- In the fourth and final set, Emmanuel needed three tries to claim match point and with a kill by first-year Trey Guest (Newington, Conn.), the Saints claimed a 25-23 fourth set victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Guest finished with a career-high 14 kills while hitting .650 from the floor. The first-year outside hitter needed just 20 attempts, combined with a single error, to have his best match with the Saints to date.
- Sophomore Thor Yingling (Truro, Mass.) added a career-high 11 kills on 19 attempts, with one error, to finish the evening with a .526 hitting percentage.
- Senior setter Roman Fabrizio (Salem, N.H.) finished with a season-high 37 assists, as he closes in on becoming the eighth player in program history to reach 1,000 career assists. Following tonight's performance, Fabrizio sits 44 assists shy of reaching The Grand Club.
- Gulls graduate student Rafa Robert (San Juan, P.R.) posted a match-best 16 kills while hitting .394 on the night.
- Graduate student Nik Kasprzak (Windham, N.H.) added 13 kills while first-year Jake Laborde (Brookline, Mass.) had a career-high 10 kills.
UP NEXT
- The Saints continue a month-long road trip, heading to Pennsylvania for the Misericordia Cougar Classic this Friday and Saturday. EC faces the host Cougars on Friday, Jan. 27 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a match with Medaille at 6:00 p.m.
- The Gulls host MIT on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:00 p.m. in MacDonald Gymnasium.
