SAINTS MEN’S VOLLEYBALL COMPLETES THE SWEEP OF THE DAY OVER RAMAPO, 3-0
Junior duo Erik English (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Alex Silva (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) posted a combined 17 kills in the second match of the day for the Emmanuel College Saints, completing the sweep over the Ramapo College Roadrunners, 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-23), Saturday afternoon in non-conference men’s volleyball action. The contest was the second for both teams as the Saints improve to 2-2 while the Roadrunners fall to 1-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- Both teams battled back and forth for the first few points of the set until Emmanuel was able to take a four point lead up 10-6, off a service ace by sophomore middle hitter John Carroll (Massapequa, N.Y.) A
- The Roadrunners were able to close the lead to two, 17-15, off of two errors from the Saints before a three point rally by Emmanuel extended the lead back to five, 20-15.
- Ramapo was able to bring themselves back into the match, 24-23 off of a kill by Erik Van Thuyne (Newtown, PA) before the Saints closed out the set with a kill by Carroll, 25-23.
SET 2
- The Saints came out slow in the second set, allowing the Roadrunners to take an early three point lead, 6-3, off of a kill by Stephen Codispodo (Massapaqua, N.Y), assisted by Lucas Inglis (Colts Neck, N.J.).
- Emmanuel was able to tie the set at fifteen a piece off of a combined block by Carrol and Seamus McDonagh (Long Beach, N.Y.).
- After the Saints took the lead at 16-15 off of a service ace by Kevin Orsley (San Jose, Calif.), they never looked back commanding the rest of the set to win 25-23.
SET 3
- Emmanuel continued the momentum from the second set to take an early 8-5 lead after a block from McDonagh and Carrol, but back to back kills from Codispodo and Van Thuyne and a ball handling error by English tied the set at 8-8.
- The Saints went on a 6-3 point run in the middle of the set to take the lead 14-11 before a pair of kills by Conor Charlow (Towson, Md.) and Van Thuyne closed the lead to 14-13.
- Both teams battled for the last points of the match before the Saints were able to close out the set 25-23 from a kill by Carroll, assisted by McDonagh.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Van Thuyne led all players with a match-high 10 kills for Ramapo while English led the Saints with nine kills of his own.
- Sophomore setter McDonash dished out 28 assists for Emmanuel while Ramapo setter Lucas Inglis recorded 33 assists on the day.
- Senior Garrett Fitzsimmons (Cartersville, Va.) defensive effort for Ramapo with a match-high 12 digs.
- The Saints were able to command the day off of a strong serving attack, recording six aces on the day in comparison to Ramapo's one.
