BOSTON, Mass.- The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team defeated Albertus Magnus College 3-0 (25-16, 25-6, 25-5) in GNAC action on Thursday evening at Andy Yosinoff Court. The Saints improve to 7-16 while the loss drops the Falcons to 2-11.
The two sides traded runs to start the match, but Emmanuel College made sure that would not be the story for the night. A kill by Max Gottuso (Long Beach, N.Y.) started the 5-1 run to give the Saints a 7-3 lead. The Falcons countered with a 5-0 run that included two straight aces from Christopher Taylor (Bronx, N.Y.) to put the Falcons ahead 8-7. A 6-1 rally gave the Saints a 13-9 lead that would prove to be too much for the Falcons to overcome. The score read 25-16 after the final point came from a kill from Alex Silva (Jamaica Plain, Mass.).
Frames two and three opened and closed with big runs from Emmanuel that were too much for Albertus Magnus to handle. The Saints took the second set 25-6 and the final stanza end 25-5.
Jacob Shlaferman (Chicopee, Mass.) had a career day on both sides of the ball posting four kills and four digs for the Saints while Paul Bleau (Auburn, Mass.) also posted a career high three kills. Erik English (Simi Valley, Calif.) recorded a game high 10 kills on 14 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .571 and Seamus Macdonald (Long Beach, N.Y.) recorded a game high 26 assists.
Alijah McGee (Stratford, Conn.) led the Falcons with seven assists and five digs.
Emmanuel College will host GNAC rivals Emerson and Mount Ida in a tri-match Saturday. Albertus Magnus will return to action against Wentworth and Lasell on Saturday in another GNAC tri-match.
