MEN'S VOLLEYBALL HOSTS FIFTH ANNUAL ALUMNI MATCH

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team welcomed back some familiar faces Friday evening in the annual Alumni Volleyball Game played at the Jean Yawkey Center Gymnasium. This year's match marked the fifth Alumni Game and welcomed back several players from the past.

For the first time in the game's history, the alums mixed up to play with the current team to give the game a more competitive atmosphere. In the previous four alumni games, the current squad had dominated owning a 4-0 record with the alums only taking one set over the four years.

With the new format, the game featured a five-set thriller and a lot of fun for everyone participating. Head Coach Bori May broke the teams up and appointed honorary alumni captains to different the squads. Zach Whitermore ('15) and Dan Campagna ('07) served as the honorary captains with the squads being dubbed TeamZach and TeamDan.

TeamDan jumped out and took the first set behind a strong performance by senior outside hitter Barrett Wingard (York, Pa.) but TeamZach stormed back to take a 2-1 lead in the match by winning sets two and three powered by the freshman duo of Erik English (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Kevin Orsley (San Jose, Calif.).

TeamZach had a chance to end the match in four, leading early in the action before TeamDan rallied to send the match to a decisive fifth set. In the final frame, alumni setter Sean Baxley ('15) ran a balanced offense to power TeamDan to a 15-9 win and take the match, 3-2.

Following the match, the Office of Alumni Relations sponsored a reception for alums and staff at The Baseball Tavern.
