UPDIKE, WHITERMORE LEAD SAINTS IN LOSS TO NO.1 SPRINGFIELD
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s Volleyball Team dropped a three-setter to No. 1 Springfield College on Saturday evening, 13-25, 22-25, 14-25. After besting Vassar in five sets earlier in the day, the host Pride swept the visiting Saints to improve to 15-3 on the season. The non-conference loss dropped EC to 4-9 overall. Emmanuel’s nine losses this season have all come at the hands of AVCA top 15 programs, including two set-backs to the top-ranked Pride.

Springfield hit at a clip of .444 in the win over the Saints, with Jimmy O'Leary and John Coen tallying eight kills apiece. Mike Pelletier notched six kills and four blocks. Mike Becker dished out 26 assists and Nick Ferry led the Pride defensively with eight digs.
The Saints were led by sophomore Zach Whitermore's match-high 10 kills. Freshman Julian Hess and sophomore Wyatt Cooper recorded five kills out of the middle. Senior setter Nick Updike ran the show for the Saints, handing out 26 assists to go along with 2 aces. Cody Diehl paced the Saints' backrow with a team-high 5 digs in the effort.
Emmanuel will play host to Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday night in a GNAC battle, before taking on Harvard University in non-conference action in the Jean Yawkey Center on Thursday night. The two home contests will precede the Saints' trip to Endicott College, where they will participate in the Gulls' March Mania Invitational next weekend.
