BOSTON, Mass. - The Saint Joseph's College Monks posted a 1-0 win over the host Emmanuel College Saints in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action played at Clemente Field on Saturday afternoon. The loss marked Emmanuel's final match of the regular season, as the Saints end their season at 3-13-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the GNAC. The win boosted St. Joe's ledger to 10-6-1 on the season and 6-2 in the league. The five seniors on the Emmanuel squad (Byron Glaus, Dan D'Amato, Corey, McLean, Taylor Lowe and Shawn Alderson) were honored prior to the start of the game.
A scoreless first-half led to just one goal in the second half, as the Monks came away with the 1-0 win over the hosts. Senior forward Doug MacCallum (Hingham, Mass.) scored what held up to be the game-winner in the 62nd minute. MacCallum's marker came on the direct free kick and gave the Monks the win.
The Monks out-shot the Saints, 10-5 for the game, including a 4-3 shots-on-goal advantage. St. Joe's senior keeper Will Pike (Gorham, Me.) picked up the shut-out win, making 3 saves in his 90-minute effort. Emmanuel's sophomore goalie Patrick Froass (Oneida, N.Y.) also made 3 saves in net for the Saints.
