MEN'S SOCCER NIPPED BY SUFFOLK

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - The Emmanuel College and Suffolk University men's soccer teams did battle on the home field of both teams on Wednesday afternoon. The Rams hosted the Saints at Dilboy Stadium and came away with a 2-1 victory over the visitors in a crucial Great Northeast Athletic Conference match.
The Saints (3-9-2, 1-4-2 GNAC) held the Rams scoreless for the first 44 minutes of the game. It was not until the 45th minutes that Suffolk (5-8, 4-4 GNAC) found the scoreboard. Suffolk's Danny Lloyd was assisted by Stephen Gaudet, scoring his first of a pair of goals for the game. The Rams then took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Emmanuel struck back mid-way through the 2nd half, when sophomore forward Gavin Molta (Southwick, MA) scored unassisted on a corner kick, tying the contest at 1-1. The game was played predominantly in the middle of the field, with both teams combining for just 6 shots-on-goal for the game. Suffolk owned a 9-6 total shots advantage over the Saints.
The Rams' game-winner came in the 77th minute, when Lloyd slid a shot past Emmanuel keeper Carlos Perez (Boca Raton, FL), putting Suffolk up 2-1. Lloyd received an assist from Nick Celia on the final goal of the game. Suffolk's Alex Capousis pick up the win for the Rams, making 1 save in his 90 minutes in net. Perez totaled 2 saves in the effort for Emmanuel.
With just two conference games remaining, the Saints are vying for a spot in the upcoming GNAC post-season tournament. Emmanuel will host top-ranked Norwich University on Saturday at 2pm in the Saints' last regular season home match. The four seniors on the Emmanuel squad will be honored prior to the start of this game.
